Purchasing Numbers
Adding a new phone number to your account takes less than a minute and the number is ready to use immediately.
Overview
You can purchase additional phone numbers directly from your Volume Reach account. Numbers are available across hundreds of area codes in the United States. Once purchased, a number is automatically configured for both calling and SMS — no manual setup required.
How It Works
How to buy a number
- Navigate to Phone Numbers in your account.
- Click Purchase Number.
- Select an area code. You can search by state or enter a specific three-digit area code.
- Review the available numbers and select one.
- Confirm the purchase. The number is added to your account immediately.
The new number is ready for outbound calls right away. For SMS, you'll need to complete A2P registration before sending messages — see the compliance section for details.
How many numbers do you need?
The right number of phone numbers depends on how many calls you plan to make per day. Here are general guidelines:
| Daily Call Volume | Recommended Numbers |
|---|---|
| Up to 50 calls/day | 1 – 2 numbers |
| Up to 100 calls/day | 2 – 3 numbers |
| Up to 500 calls/day | 10 – 12 numbers |
| Up to 1,000 calls/day | 20 – 25 numbers |
These are estimates. If you notice a high percentage of calls being flagged as spam or going unanswered, adding more numbers and spreading the volume is usually the most effective fix.
Choosing an area code
Pick area codes that are geographically relevant to the contacts you're calling. A local number — one that shares an area code with the contact — tends to get answered more often than an unfamiliar out-of-state number.
Tips & Best Practices
- Start with the minimum number of numbers for your volume and add more as your campaign grows. You can purchase numbers at any time.
- If you're targeting contacts in multiple cities or states, consider purchasing numbers in each of those area codes rather than using a single number for everyone.
- After purchasing, set up A2P registration before running any SMS campaigns — carriers can block messages from unregistered numbers.
- Numbers that are no longer in use should be released to avoid being charged for them each month.
