Composing a Broadcast
Follow these steps to write, target, and send a bulk SMS message to your contacts.
Overview
Sending a broadcast takes just a few minutes. You write your message, choose who receives it, pick a sending number, and confirm. Volume Reach handles the rest.
How It Works
Follow these steps to send a broadcast:
Step 1 — Navigate to SMS Sender
From the main navigation, open SMS Sender. This is your broadcast hub where all outbound bulk messages are created and sent.
Step 2 — Compose your message
Type your message directly in the message box. Keep your message clear and concise — shorter messages tend to perform better and avoid carrier splitting.
If you have saved templates, click Use a Template to load one instead of typing from scratch. You can edit the template text before sending. See SMS Templates for how to create and manage templates.
Step 3 — Select your audience
Use the audience filters to control exactly who receives your message:
- Campaign — Limit recipients to contacts from a specific campaign.
- Outcome — Filter by call outcome, such as contacts who did not answer, who were marked interested, or who requested a callback.
- Phone type — Send only to mobile numbers if you want to maximize deliverability.
You can combine these filters to get a precise audience. For example: contacts from your "March Outreach" campaign whose outcome was "No Answer."
Step 4 — Choose your sending number
Select which of your registered phone numbers will appear as the sender. Contacts may reply to this number, and replies will appear in your Conversations inbox.
Step 5 — Preview recipient count
Before sending, Volume Reach shows you the total number of contacts who match your filters and will receive the message. Review this number carefully — once sent, a broadcast cannot be recalled.
Step 6 — Send
Click Send Broadcast to deliver your message. Volume Reach queues and sends messages immediately.
Tips & Best Practices
- Always preview the recipient count. A misconfigured filter could result in sending to far more or far fewer people than intended.
- Use templates for recurring messages. Templates save time and help you stay consistent across campaigns.
- Be mindful of timing. Send messages during business hours in your contacts' local time zone whenever possible. Sending late at night or early in the morning can hurt engagement and increase opt-outs.
- Review your daily limits before large sends. If your audience is very large, you may want to stagger the send. See Broadcast Limits for guidance.
- Opt-outs are handled automatically. Contacts who have opted out will not receive your broadcast, even if they match your filters.
