Volume Reach

Drip Sequences

Nurture leads automatically with a series of scheduled touches — calls, texts, and wait periods — over days or weeks.

Overview

A drip sequence is a pre-planned series of outreach steps that execute automatically on a schedule you define. Instead of manually remembering to follow up with a lead on day three, or send a reminder on day seven, you build the sequence once and Volume Reach handles the timing.

Drip sequences are ideal for leads who didn't respond on the first attempt, contacts who need multiple touches before converting, and post-call nurture flows.

Drip sequences require the CRM add-on ($50/mo).

How Drip Sequences Work

A sequence is made up of steps. Each step is either:

  • An action — place an AI call, send an SMS.
  • A wait — pause for a set number of hours or days before the next step.

When a contact is enrolled in a sequence, they move through each step in order. If a contact responds or converts at any point, you can configure the sequence to stop automatically.

Example Sequence

StepTypeDetails
1AI CallIntroduce offer, leave voicemail if no answer
2Wait1 day
3SMS"Hi {first name}, I tried calling yesterday — are you available for a quick chat?"
4Wait2 days
5AI CallFollow-up attempt
6Wait3 days
7SMSFinal follow-up message

Building a Drip Sequence

Step 1: Create a New Sequence

  1. Go to Automation in the left sidebar and select Drip Sequences.
  2. Click New Sequence.
  3. Give the sequence a descriptive name (e.g., "New Lead 7-Day Nurture").

Step 2: Add Steps

Click Add Step to build out your sequence:

  • AI Call: Select the AI agent and campaign to use for the call.
  • SMS: Write your message. Use personalization tokens like {first_name} to tailor each message.
  • Wait: Choose the delay — hours or days — before the next step fires.

Drag steps to reorder them at any time.

Step types: SMS vs AI Call

Every drip step has a type toggle at the top of the editor:

  • SMS (default) — sends a text message at the scheduled time. Use the message textarea to write the body, with placeholder tokens ({{OWNER_NAME}}, {{ADDRESS}}, {{CITY}}, {{STATE}}) for personalization. Segment count and GSM/Unicode encoding hint update live as you type.
  • AI Call — fires a voice-agent dial at the scheduled time. The message textarea hides; a voice-agent picker appears instead. Default agent: your account's lead-arrived agent override (set on the Lead Arrived page) with fallback to your account default.

Mix and match types within a sequence. A common high-conversion pattern:

StepTypeDelayPurpose
1SMS0 minImmediate confirmation: "Got your inquiry, expect a call from {Agent} in a few minutes."
2AI Call5 minFirst contact attempt
3SMS1 dayRe-engagement: "I tried you yesterday — what's a good time?"
4AI Call3 daysSecond contact attempt
5SMS7 daysFinal touch: "Last note from us — reply STOP to opt out, or 1 to schedule."

TCPA on AI Call steps: drip-fired AI calls honor the requireConsent toggle on the Speed-to-Lead trigger settings. If you have requireConsent=true and the lead has no LeadConsent on file, the AI Call step is skipped — the sequence continues to the next step but no dial fires. See Speed-to-Lead settings for the consent toggle. SMS steps are unaffected (SMS is governed by tenant opt-out keywords + DNC scrubbing, not the TriggerSettings consent gate).

The step row in the builder shows an icon (envelope for SMS, phone for AI Call) so you can scan a long sequence at a glance.

Step 3: Set Exit Conditions

Choose when a contact should leave the sequence early:

  • Contact replies to SMS — stop the sequence when they respond.
  • Call outcome is set to a specific value — stop if the contact converts or asks not to be contacted.
  • Contact tag is added — stop when a tag like "Customer Won" is applied.

Exit conditions prevent over-messaging contacts who have already engaged.

Step 4: Save and Activate

Click Save. The sequence is now ready to receive enrollments. It will not run until contacts are enrolled.

Enrolling Contacts

Contacts can be enrolled in a drip sequence in two ways:

  1. Manually — Go to the contact's record and click Enroll in Sequence, then select the sequence.
  2. Via Trigger — Create a trigger that automatically enrolls contacts when an event occurs (e.g., a call ends without an answer).

Monitoring Sequences

In the Drip Sequences list, each sequence shows:

  • Active enrollments — how many contacts are currently moving through the sequence.
  • Completed — how many contacts have finished all steps.
  • Exited early — how many contacts left due to an exit condition.

Click a sequence to see a step-by-step breakdown of where contacts currently stand and which steps have the highest drop-off.

Tips

  • Start with a wait after the first call: Give contacts at least 24 hours before following up with an SMS — back-to-back touches feel pushy.
  • Keep SMS messages short: A follow-up SMS in a drip sequence should be two to three sentences maximum. State who you are, reference the previous call, and include a clear next step.
  • Always set exit conditions: Without them, a contact who converts will continue receiving follow-ups — frustrating for both of you.
  • Test your sequence: Enroll a test contact before going live to confirm timing, message content, and exit conditions all work as expected.
